MyW.AI / Scooner — Experimental Bluetooth AoA Device for Survivor Recovery

June 2021 | Client: MyW.AI / Knowhedge Srl

Bluetooth LE Raspberry Pi Python 3D Printing

This was an experimental search-and-rescue device developed with MyW.AI and Knowhedge Srl, not a finished commercial product. I contributed to turning the concept into a hand-held prototype able to provide directional and distance cues during the first hour of a nautical emergency. The device combined Bluetooth Low Energy 5.1, a multi-antenna system for Angle of Arrival (AoA) direction finding and RSSI-based distance estimation, with a Raspberry Pi controller, touchscreen interface and battery-powered electronics.

The challenging part was connecting radio measurements with feedback that could remain understandable in the field. My work covered the hardware prototype, antenna and calibration experiments, the operator interface, and the mechanical integration of protected USB access, physical controls and a compact 3D-printed enclosure designed for a more practical, watertight build. The result was a tangible test platform for exploring how a rescuer could search for a Bluetooth tag or person by combining bearing and approximate range.

My role was technical contributor and named inventor. My name is recorded in patent IT202100016382A1, assigned to Knowhedge Srl.
